Masterchef Junior Premiere Recap 3/2/18: Season 6 Episode 1 and 2
Tonight on FOX Gordon Ramsay’s Masterchef Junior continues with an all-new Friday, March 2, 2018, season 6 episode 1 and 2 called “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun; The Boys Are Back in Town,” and we have your weekly Masterchef Junior recap below. On tonight’s Masterchef Junior episode as per the FOX synopsis, “In the Season 6 premiere, 40 junior home cooks come to Los Angeles ready to compete. The junior home cooks are split up into two groups— girls and boys, and all 20 girls are tasked with making a flawless medium-rare filet mignon dish. The boys, meanwhile, must prepare the perfect chicken breast dish. Only 12 winners from each group will earn an apron and a chance to move on.”

Sammy is so excited to be on the show, he says it is his lifelong dream, he is 12 years old. Chloe can’t believe that she is seriously on the show. Gordon Ramsay and Christina Tosi greet the junior chefs and Christina announce that they have a surprise for them. Christina and Gordon are not the only judges this season, Joe Bastianich joins the cast. Gordon has their Master Chef aprons but announces that they are going to have to earn it Joe tells them they will be split into two groups, boys, and girls.
The girls are up first, there are 12 aprons for the taking, they all have to cook a filet mignon perfectly medium rare. The girls have 25 minutes to prepare their steak with a delicious side. The home cooks who prepare their decisions the best will get their apron and head up to the balcony. Remy is with her sister Olivia and she hopes they both get an apron. Beni is first up, the judges seem happy. Emily is next, Gordon took two bites. Olivia didn’t heat the pan before cooking her steak. Sophia is a little panicky, she finds Joe so intimidating. Gracie has butterflies in her stomach and she is sure everyone else does. Gordon announces that eight of the girls really impressed them.
First up is a restaurant quality dish and the dish of the night, Ariana. Next is Zia, followed by Sophia, Avery, Emily, Beni, Gracie, and Remy. Joe calls Aubry, Addyson, Nadia and Noelani o the front, all four are eliminated. There is one more challenge for the eight that are left so the judges can decide which four move forward. For the challenge, the girls have to cook their favorite dish that shows off their talents and passion for cooking. They have 60 minutes to make the judges their signature dish.
The cooks have finished their dishes. Olivia is first, her sister hopes she wins, Olivia made a Berry Tart with raspberries, blueberries, blackberries and whipped cream; Christina says that she is impressed, Joe as well. Lila is the youngest at 8 years old, she made Meatballs with tomato sauce and cucumber-tomato salad; Gordon likes the sauce and the meatballs but says the meatball’s appearance could be better. Mackenzie made Gyoza with carrot slaw and soy dipping sauce; Christina is blown away, Joe as well.
Laken made Shrimp & Grits with vegetables and andouille sausage; Gordon says the grits are too firm and the dish is too greasy. Chloe made a flan; Joe likes the flavor, but it’s not a flan. Abby made Beignets with honey and strawberry dipping sauce; Gordon doesn’t like it, the dough is too thick and the sauce too sweet. Lindsey made Rosemary Lamb Chops with tzatziki and cheese stuffed eggplant; Christine likes the lamb, but the eggplant is tough. Maria made Lamb Chops with mofongo and tzatziki; Gordon says it’s a good dish, but doesn’t know if it is good enough.
Time to find out which four chefs get an apron. The first girl to get an apron is Mackenzie, then Lindsey, Olivia, and Maria.
Time for the boys to show off their talents. To try to win a white apron, the boys have to cook a breast of chicken. In addition to the chicken breast, the cooks have to make a delicious side. Sammy is first; Christina seems happy. Colby’s chicken is raw inside. Henry has a beautiful presentation that impresses Christina. Felix’s chicken is also raw in the middle. Time for the judges to choose the first eight cooks that have earned themselves an apron. The first cook to get an apron is Sammy, followed by Juelz, Grayson, Hampton, Henry, Cade, Mikey and Pierce.
Twelve are still standing in the kitchen, four are going to be eliminated now; Colby, Elliott, Jadon, and Felix. There are eight left in the kitchen and four more aprons for the taking. The boys have to cook their incredible signature dish. Quani is first up, he made Cupcakes with chocolate swirls and strawberries; Christina is impressed, but doesn’t like the color, Joe says they are really good.
Anthony made Chicken Cutlet Hoagie with broccolini; Gordon is impressed. Drew made Arab Fusion Burger with pita chips; Joe thinks it is really interesting, maybe too aggressive with the spices. Tyler made Chicken Nuggets with glazed carrots; Gordon says the chicken is a little too dry. Chuke made Nigerian Shrimp Stew with chimichurri sauce; Christine felt that the dish needed more oil.
Luca made Spicy Tomato Pasta with garlic bread; Joe says the pasta is overcooked. Ben made Peach Cobbler with whipped cream and caramel sauce; Christine liked it but the whipped cream was too heavy. Evan made Bananas Foster Crepes with dulce de leche stuffed bananas; Gordon loves the dish. All eight cooks head to the front with the judges.
The next four who receive an apron is Anthony, followed by Quani, Evan, and Ben.
